Women's Workforce Transition Program

An initiative that could transform the lives of countless women in DeKalb County.

The Proposal

Our organization OCfC, in partnership with A Home For Everyone In DeKalb and Georgia Works, is launching the Women’s Workforce Transition Program designed to support women in need.

Oakhouse CfC

Our mission is to amplify the impact of local nonprofits focused on social justice, economic justice and equity by providing training, tools, and community engagement.

Georgia Works

The mission of Georgia Works is to end homelessness, criminal recidivism and dependency though education and the development of good habits, work ethic and character. Our goal is self sufficiency.

A Home for Everyone

To support people experiencing homelessness in DeKalb County by providing rapid housing. To partner with the community and government groups to provide emergency shelter. To advocate for more affordable housing.

The First of It's Kind in
Dekalb County

The proposed women’s program will be closely modeled on Georgia Works’ (GW) current program.

The proposed project will be at 232 Eastlake Drive, Decatur, GA 30030.

For 22 years the building was previously used by Oakhurst Baptist Church as a transitional house and other support services for area men in recovery and experiencing homelessness.

There were no issues or neighborhood complaints during this time.

Real World Experience

Participants come to Georgia Works through various referrals – many by word of mouth – as the organization’s reputation on the streets has grown. Others come from drug rehabilitation facilities or other service providers, and some by court officials or judges who have repeatedly seen the effectiveness and impact of the Georgia Works program

The women will gain real-world experience, get their foot in the door of an employer as a first step toward permanent employment with that employer or gaining invaluable experience they can leverage in their future job hunt.

Long Term Focused

Participants in the Georgia Works program renounce dependency and remain drug and alcohol free for the entire time they are in the program. Participants are provided personal support, case management and workforce training.

Georgia Works seeks long-term goals for the participants it serves. It aims not to merely feed and house them for a night, but to empower them for a lifetime through job training, financial management, education and professional counselling for addiction, anger management, and other issues
